Every day something goes by that you’d like to keep: a chord under a vocal, a bass line in a trailer, a loop in someone’s set. DOT catches the one you noticed, cut to the sound, with the key, tempo and chords written down.

Analyze

Key, tempo,
chords.

Musical clips get their key and tempo, and a chord for every half bar on the grid. A wrong chord is usually a close relative of the right one. Enough to start writing, not a transcription.

Record

One key,
any app.

Pick a source, or leave it on all Mac audio, and press ⌘R. There’s no audio driver, no plugin and nothing to reroute. macOS asks once for permission to record sound; after that, DOT just listens when you tell it to.

Trim

The silence is
already gone.

Every take is trimmed at both ends before you see it. Drag the handles and they snap to the beat; hold ⌘ to move freely. Turn on Loop and hear exactly what you’ll drag out. Double-click a chord to keep just that chord.

Drag

Straight into
your session.

Drop a clip on a track as a normal audio file. Save the chords as a standard MIDI file from the Export menu and play them with your own instruments. Copy with ⌘C and paste in Finder.
